About the Role 

The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the reputation and the implementation of both proactive and reactive media and public relations strategies as a member of the Media team. The role is a 12 month contract offering $520-$720 per day + super in Macquarie Park.

Key accountabilities

  • Prepare and dispatch media statements covering all operational-related information utilising a range of media channels, including disruption communications in liaison with the operator, ensuring appropriate approval prior to release, and act as organisational spokesperson as required.

  • Prepare and disseminate summary information and advice regarding disruptions back to management to support issues management.

  • Undertake research and monitor state-wide media releases and responses to provide a media monitoring service and strategic communication advice for the organisation.

  • Provide timely and accurate responses and correspondence to media issues and inquiries out of hours (including early morning radio) as required, ensuring a high level of service to members of the media.

  • Coordinate event management preparation for public appearances and the writing of material for public speaking by senior management, to ensure event objectives are achieved.

  • Build effective and collaborative relationships with media representatives, managers across the government agency and other media and communications staff.

  • Act as a central point of contact between the Operations media team and the management team to ensure that sign-offs are secured and relevant executive members are aware of arising matters and resolutions.

About You 

  • Ability to work autonomously. 

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (such as Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media relations).

  • Ability to work outside standard working hours (shift work).

  • High level understanding of media, to manage and develop media resources to enhance the department.

  • Prior experience in a government position will be highly regarded.
