About the company
A state government organisation based in Parramatta CBD requires a Project Accountant to join their team on a temporary 12-month contract with probable extension.
About the role:
Supporting the Manager of Project Accounting this role will support the effective financial management of projects, programmes and portfolios by delivering robust project reporting and accounting. To be achieved by ensuring the integrity of project financial data that facilitates informed investment decision making and management of benefits realisation.
Key accountabilities:
  • The day to day delivery of project accounting frameworks, policies and processes to ensure compliance with all financial, statutory and regulatory reporting requirements and deliver effective decision-making information to multiple stakeholders including the Board and Executive Team.
  • Supporting core Project Accounting activities which will include;
    • Project lifecycle financial reporting
    • Collation of information to prepare project, program and portfolio forecasts, variance analysis and risk management strategies
    • Modelling of capital expenditure forecasts
    • Preparing, reviewing annual, quarterly project budgets (Opex and Capex)
    • Ensuring the integrity of the internal control environment for all projects
    • Undertaking benefits tracking reviews
    • Preparing project accounting reconciliations and audit work papers as appropriate
    • Involvement with various governance forums, including project review committees / post-implementation reviews, alliance leadership teams etc
    • Prepare project accounting information, analysis and insights to provide commercial and strategic advice to the Head of Commercial Performance and Executive Team to determine future goals and support long term planning and decision making.
    • Prepare information and analysis for projects, programs and portfolios to ensure compliance with agreed ways of working across project accounting reporting, governance and risk management activities.
    • Collate capex data for external reporting purposes, including Annual Information Returns, Special Information Return, WSAA benchmarking, National Water Initiative/NPR benchmarking, ABS survey and IPART reviews
    • Perform Capital Reporting Data Maintenance (FMIS / TM1 Projects / Workbench / PM Data Portal / P6)
    • Supporting Senior Project Accountants in advising Business Units, Project Managers etc. to enable them to improve their understanding of organisational methodologies; effectively manage their project, program and portfolio budgets and evaluate the commerciality of their decisions and plans
    • Assisting with internal and external audit requirements including supporting reviews of project accounting financial, governance controls and post implementation project reviews.
    • Support the development of the enterprise annual + 5 year capital investment program (CIP) and 20-30 year long-term forecast
 About you:
  • CA / CPA qualified;
  • Must have Work Bench
  • SAP & TM1 experience desirable 
  • 4+ years’ experience working in finance in a large complex organisation, preferably in utilities industry sector (i.e. asset intensive and/or regulated)
  • Cost accounting
  • Must possess strong technical, analytical, and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
