About the Role 

The Lead the People Communications function, primarily focusses on developing and executing the Government's people communications strategy in line with the organisation’s strategy and target culture.

Key accountabilities:
  • Develop and execute internal communications strategy in line with strategic direction and target culture to ensure employees are informed, engaged and connect with purpose and values.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies and plans to support employee value proposition and enhance the organisation’s reputation as an employer of choice.
  • Work as a key advisor to the CEO, Group Executives and General Managers to deliver communications activities in line with strategic business goals.
  • Maintain a strategic understanding of business priorities and challenges and translate them into measurable communications activities.
  • Lead a team of communications professionals to successfully deliver people communications and campaigns that achieve business goals and drive change.
  • Manage the aggregated business line communication workflow and allocate resources accordingly from the communications specialist pool.
  • Provide independent, expert, strategic advice, problem resolution and reporting to senior management, on emerging issues and communication effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain a network of contacts, and actively seek their input into communications strategies and products.
  • Work with the wider Communications Community of Practice to team and Digitisation teams to deliver shared objectives and maintain an active, positive presence at meetings, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Build a shared sense of purpose and direction, and a values-driven culture of performance, accountability and collaboration across a team of professionals and support staff.
About You
  • Tertiary level qualifications (at degree level) in communications, business or a related discipline, or equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through practical experience gained in similar roles.
  • 10+ years of experience in communications
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Pre-employment checks.
  • Extensive managerial experience in corporate communications and/or journalism in an issues-rich, highly sensitive commercial and political environment.
  • Experience leading an internal communications function.
