We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join a high-performing government environment delivering critical digital infrastructure and platform modernisation initiatives.

This role is suited to a senior engineer who can design, implement, and take ownership of large-scale Linux platforms while remaining hands-on in delivery. You will play a key role in building and maintaining secure, resilient, and scalable Linux environments that underpin essential agency services.

About the Role
As the Senior Linux Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across Linux platform engineering and infrastructure modernisation initiatives. You will work within secure on-premises environments, contributing to platform design, automation, security hardening, lifecycle management, and operational excellence.

This is an opportunity to work in a highly secure and technically complex environment where engineering capability, sound judgement, and proactive problem-solving are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and manage large-scale Linux platforms consisting of 650+ hosts, primarily running Ubuntu in secure on-premises environments.
  • Lead the engineering and continuous improvement of Linux Standard Operating Environments (SOEs), primarily Ubuntu 22 and 24, with some RHEL environments.
  • Define and implement platform standards relating to:
    • Security hardening
    • Availability and resilience
    • Performance and capacity planning
    • Lifecycle and patch management
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for complex Linux platform changes and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Drive automation and engineering best practices across the environment.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support platform reliability, scalability, and operational outcomes.

You will ideally have:
  • Extensive experience supporting enterprise Linux environments
  • Strong expertise across Ubuntu and/or RHEL platforms
  • Experience with Linux SOE design and management
  • Knowledge of security hardening and infrastructure best practices
  • Strong automation and scripting capability
  • Experience working within complex or government environments

Security Requirements
Candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain, Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) clearance. Candidates with Baseline clearance and the ability to obtain NV1 will also be considered. Successful applicants must complete the Agency Suitability Assessment (ASA) prior to commencement.

If you are a highly capable Linux engineer looking to contribute to large-scale infrastructure and platform transformation initiatives, we encourage you to apply.
