Safety Lead - Work Health & Safety
 
Duration: Initial 10 Weeks
Rate: $77.39/hr + Super
Location: Blacktown
Hours: 35/week
 
Overview
 
This role is primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining a working environment, which provides for the health, safety and well-being of all employees of Council together with any other such persons or organisations as defined under the provisions of the Workplace Health and associated Acts.
 
Experience & Qualifications:
 
Essential
  • Diploma qualification in Work Health and Safety (WHS) or a related discipline
  • Solid experience in WHS, with a strong understanding of WHS system management
  • Demonstrated ability to work in WHS within a multi-dimensional industry
  • Experience delivering basic WHS training
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team of WHS professionals
  • Knowledge of WHS legislation and regulations
  • Current Class C driver's licence
Desirable
  • Basic understanding of WHS audit processes
  • Experience in a local government environment
  • Experience in a similar role working for a NSW self-insured employer
Responsibilities Position-Specific
  • Develop, promote, implement, and monitor Council's WHS policies, procedures, and work instructions
  • Demonstrate active interest and leadership in WHS
  • Facilitate and participate in regular safety audits, and coordinate corrective action processes to ensure appropriate actions are taken
  • Identify safety training needs
  • Ensure compliance with State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) Self-Insurer Audit Requirements and Safety System requirements
Requirements
  • Prepare and coordinate safety data statistics, ensuring accurate reporting for Council
  • If this role is identified as a position that coordinates volunteer programs and supervises volunteers while they are on site (excluding work experience placements), you will be required to:
    • Familiarise yourself with Council's Volunteers Policy and Standards
    • Implement the policy and follow the Managing Volunteers Standard in a consistent and fair manner
    • Undertake the training required to effectively coordinate volunteers
    • Allocate sufficient time to volunteer coordination
