As Project Officer (Technical), you will:
- Coordinate and implement Council's Swimming Pools Inspection Program, including inspections, compliance certificates, exemption determinations and regulatory enforcement.
- Provide technical advice and support to the Building & Engineering Assessment teams on compliance and regulatory matters.
- Manage allocated applications, service requests, inspections and regulatory functions in accordance with relevant legislation and Council procedures.
- Monitor and allocate work to officers assisting with the Swimming Pools Program.
- Issue notices, orders and directions and undertake appropriate enforcement action where required.
- Investigate customer enquiries and complaints relating to swimming pool compliance and building regulatory matters.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholders through DA/CC and CDC approval processes, including referrals, pre-lodgement meetings and fire safety design brief meetings.
- Liaise with contractors, certifiers (CC & PCA), trades and professionals throughout inspection processes to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
- Prepare professional reports for senior management including the Manager of Building & Engineering Assessment and Director Design & Development.
- Represent Council in court proceedings relating to development control and regulatory matters where required.
- Maintain strong knowledge of relevant legislation including:
- Swimming Pools Act 1992
- Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 & EP&A Regulation
- Local Government Act
- Building Professionals Act 2005
- Initiate legal proceedings in accordance with Council delegations.
- Maintain required accreditation and complete annual CPD requirements.
- Act in accordance with conduct provisions and accreditation parameters under the Building Professionals Act 2005.
You will bring:
- Experience in building compliance, technical inspections or regulatory services (local government experience highly regarded).
- Strong understanding of NSW building and planning legislation.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and regulatory workloads efficiently.
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to navigate enforcement conversations professionally.
- High-level written skills with experience preparing technical reports.
- A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.
