We are looking for a passionate and creative Urban Designer (Graphic Designer) to join our team and play a key role in delivering the Visual DCP project.
This position focuses on producing high-quality documentation and visualisations with an emphasis on clear, concise, and visually compelling planning and design deliverables. You'll work closely with Council's strategic planners and urban designers to prepare documents, diagrams, and 3D models, while also setting style, format, and digital requirements for a public-facing platform.
Additionally, you'll support the team on various projects, including other planning and design policies, master plans, the 3D model project, the Design Review Panel, DAs and planning proposals.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to updating Control Plan (DCP) and other planning and design policies, including producing sophisticated layouts, maps, diagrams, and testing controls with 3D models.
- Design visually appealing and accessible documents, maps, and diagrams.
- Conduct scenario testing using 3D modelling software, such as Giraffe (Note, Giraffe can be easily learnt for those with design modelling experience).
- Collaboration with other design professionals, planners and internal stakeholders to ensure project success
- Ensure project timelines are met while maintaining the highest standards of quality in documentation and graphics
- Adhere to accessibility standards in document layout and design
- Support the delivery of master plans, the 3D model project, and other planning and design initiatives as required.
- Any other duties within your skills and capabilities to support the City Strategy and Design Unit.
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in urban design, 3D model, and visualisation;
- Excellent graphic skills, including proficiency in Giraffe, Sketchup, AutoCAD, ArcGIS and/or equivalent, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office;
- Demonstrated experience in preparing urban design and planning reports.
- Demonstrated experience in producing sophisticated document layout and design;
- Proven organisational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise own workload and to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, meeting completing deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes;
- Ability to consult and liaise effectively with a wide range of people in a culturally diverse environment;
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills;
- Knowledge of and experience with accessible design standards
- A passion for creating clear, concise, and well-organized design documents
