We are seeking a skilled and forward‑thinking GIS Specialist to support the City Strategy & Design Unit. In this role, you will use your technical expertise and creative problem‑solving to deliver high‑quality spatial analysis, mapping and data visualisation that informs land‑use planning, infrastructure decisions and the codification of DCP controls.
You will play a key role in strengthening our digital planning systems and supporting evidence‑based decision‑making across the organisation.
Responsibilities:
- Produce professional maps, infographics, diagrams and reports for Council, and public exhibition.
- Convert PDF maps into GIS‑ready formats to support LEP and DCP mapping and ensure integration with Council modelling software.
- Present complex spatial information in clear, accessible formats for diverse stakeholders.
- Undertake complex spatial queries and 2D/3D analysis to support strategic planning and decision‑making.
- Prepare digital models and visualisations to communicate planning scenarios and development outcomes.
- Assist in establishing a new interactive online planning platform and the codification of DCP controls.
- Support installation, upgrading and training for QGIS and imaging software.
- Provide timely support across the unit and build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, including ICT.
- Assist Council divisions and the general public with property system and GIS enquiries.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of GIS, digital tools and planning system integration.
- Minimum 4 years' experience in a related field such as GIS, geography, cartography, planning, environmental engineering, or urban design.
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, QGIS and other ESRI platforms.
- Experience producing high‑quality spatial outputs for land‑use planning projects.
- Strong skills in 3D GIS and digital drafting tools (e.g. Terra Explorer, Autodesk 3D Max, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Giraffe).
- Ability to translate complex spatial and analytical data into clear, visual reports.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent judgement, initiative and problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a diverse community.
