About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Data Platform Architect to lead the evolution of a modern enterprise data platform within a major Federal Government agency. The role will provide architectural leadership across data platform transformation initiatives, with a strong focus on Microsoft Fabric adoption, Azure-based analytics capabilities, enterprise data governance, and advanced analytics enablement.
Working within the Data Platform Services team, you will design and guide the implementation of scalable, secure, and governed data architectures that support self-service analytics, data science, and enterprise-wide reporting capabilities.

Working within the Data Platform Services team, you will design and guide the implementation of scalable, secure, and governed data architectures that support self-service analytics, data science, and enterprise-wide reporting capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide architectural leadership for the organisation's data platform strategy and future-state architecture.
- Lead the migration from Power BI Premium to Microsoft Fabric, ensuring alignment with modern analytics capabilities.
- Design and implement enterprise data architecture patterns across Microsoft Fabric and Azure data services.
- Review, redesign, and optimise the enterprise data lake, leveraging Medallion/Lakehouse architecture principles.
- Lead data modelling activities across data warehouses, semantic layers, and enterprise data assets.
- Enable advanced analytics and data science capabilities through Azure and Microsoft Fabric services.
- Establish and embed data governance, security, lineage, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
- Support self-service analytics within a secure and governed environment.
- Guide technical teams through architecture decisions, solution trade-offs, risks, and implementation approaches.
- Lead proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and solution validation activities.
- Design integration solutions for geospatial data and GIS platforms including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and Azure Maps.
- Develop architecture standards, blueprints, best practices, and operating models for enterprise data management.
- Extensive experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale Azure data platform architectures.
- Strong expertise across Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and related Azure services.
- Hands-on experience implementing Microsoft Fabric workloads, including Lakehouse, Data Engineering, Data Science, and Governance capabilities.
- Deep understanding of Medallion Architecture and Lakehouse design patterns.
- Proven experience designing scalable, secure, and governed enterprise data lakes.
- Strong data modelling expertise across conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Experience supporting machine learning and advanced analytics workloads within Azure/Fabric environments.
- Strong knowledge of metadata management, master data, reference data, data cataloguing, and governance frameworks.
- Experience implementing data lineage, auditing, monitoring, and data quality controls.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview and/or Microsoft Fabric governance tools.
- Strong understanding of Azure security, access controls, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to align technical solutions with enterprise architecture and business objectives.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and advisory skills, with experience influencing technical teams and business stakeholders.
