Cyber Security Coordinator – Role Summary Purpose of the Role
Responsible for safeguarding Council’s systems, networks, and data from cyber threats. The role partners with the Chief Digital Officer and key stakeholders to identify risks, manage incidents, and embed strong security practices across all technology initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a Council-wide Cyber Security Framework and program aligned to industry standards and regulations (e.g. Essential 8, Mandatory 25, PCI-DSS)
- Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and implement mitigation strategies
- Manage and maintain security tools(firewalls, intrusion detection, antivirus, etc.)
- Lead incident response and forensic investigations
- Drive security awareness and training programs across the organisation
- Ensure security and compliance are embedded into all technology projects and changes
- Collaborate with stakeholders to manage risks related to new technologies and business processes
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning
- Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on risks, threats, and security posture
- Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, frameworks, and regulatory requirements
- Experience delivering cyber strategy and security programs
- Proven ability in incident management and forensic analysis
- Solid project management and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Relevant qualifications in IT or Cyber Security (certifications like CISSP, CISM desirable)
- Strengthening Council-wide cyber resilience and governance
- Embedding security-by-design across all digital initiatives
- Building strong stakeholder relationships across technical and non-technical teams
- Supporting a compliant, risk-aware, and security-conscious culture
