Q. Why/ How did you end up in recruitment
I never dreamed over 20 years ago that I would be working in recruitment, in Australia, have an amazing family and grown a fantastic recruitment company.
After graduating with an Economics degree I had great visions of working for a sports marketing company. I moved to London and walked into a recruitment company to have an interview about a job they were working. 4 hours later I had somehow signed a contract to work for them as a Recruiter. I think the path to recruitment is a little different now. I wouldn’t change my journey though.
Q. Hobby/ interest outside of work
My main interest outside of work has to be the family. With 3 kids time is taken up with all their activities/ sport or being daddy uber. Watching my kids whether it be rugby, netball, swimming or dance gives me such a sense of pride. Any spare time is generally all about the water with the kids – surfing, fishing, swimming etc.
My family is also heavily involved in an Indigenous Program that involves the whole family helping, managing, supporting Indigenous kids. This gives the whole family a totally different perspective of life that I hope balances out all of us.
Q. Field in which you specialise
I have always worked in the Technical recruitment space. However with so many positions morphing together the area I have worked in has definitely broadened. I believe that if you work WITH a client and understand the needs of both the client and candidates recruitment is actually a very simple process. As one of my mentors said; “Use your ears and moth in that ratio”. I honestly believe that Ashdown does this and it is one the main points of difference and why Ashdown has been so successful.
